The Election - results, Jr. lost, came in 3rd out of 4, but the bottom 2 candidates together didn't get half the votes of the next candidate up the rung. Narrow margins between 1 and 2, and 3 and 4, and effectually all his campaigning did was split the liberal vote, if they hadn't run the area would have elected a more liberal candidate, but as it was 3 liberal candidates split the vote so that a single Conservative could win.
He spent a lot of time and money under the delusion that he could win this. He didn't, and his running proved a big loss for everybody. Those few votes he got would have put #2 firmly in the lead.
He would never consider that maybe for the good of the community he should step down and throw his weight behind a more viable candidate. Which goes a long ways to explaining why perhaps a career in Public Service isn't for him.
Now he's faced with the awful reality of having to get a job...something he's so far spent his entire life successfully avoiding.

And it's come around again, election time for the local area, the incumbent is standing down and the owner's son, he's set his chops on being the district representative.
There are 3 people running against him.
Now this - his interest in politics, it's encouraged by his parents, and I wonder why. Because - really, if he wins he's bought a whole ton of responsibilities for what amounts to a very mediocre part-time salary. He will still be living large in Mommies pocket, But it's campaign, campaign, campaign, and I'm more than a little certain that he's doing it solely so he doesn't have to look for work, he has no hope of winning, and while I can't speak on this his reputation - well, it precedes him. He has no community engagement other than at election time, no community profile, and he doesn't actually live in the area he's hoping to represent. He's the archetypal self-serving politician who wants your vote at election and then disappears for the next 4 years.
My thoughts, anyways, at most a week of this nonsense to go and I'll be free and clear to address what are fast becoming a lot of other things.

And so - complain, complain, work.
4 days this weekend at the restaurant...and I'm working with Sketchy East Shore Pam.
And the other waitress, Cathy, who is a professional server and knows what she's doing.
She's not a problem.
But Sketchy East Shore Pam, on a variety of anti-psychotics, probably drunk, and - I'm increasingly of the opinion, high on meth, is proving a nightmare.
I overlap shifts with her - I open, she starts at 4:30. She has to take the Ferry to get here. And when she gets here she always needs a few minutes to put on her makeup.
It doesn't help.
And she starts. And she's nothing but pure chaos, she gets to her table limit, which is two, maybe three, and so I'm staying now into the evening picking up the tables she can't handle. And looking after the tables she says she can. And I can't complain because otherwise I'd be doing it myself, - anybody is better than nobody, but she's a fucking nightmare. It's like paying someone to do it yourself. She's lost, lost, lost. And I want out. And she chatters endlessly, tells me how much she's done this, how good she is, how fancy her manners are - and it's all "Nope", be pleasant - but - ....
It's 8:00 before I can cut and leave. She's an hour and a half to sweep and close. "See you!" and I wave goodbye.
She calls the Cathy in tears. I was an asshole and left her with the close by herself and her cash doesn't balance and...
Cathy and I, we're of a similar mind. We laugh. But she's a fucking nightmare.
This morning, early at work - because even with an hour and a half to close I'm going to have to do it again - sweep, mop, etc, etc.
Sketchy East Shore Pam, would fit right in at Newkey's on the East Shore, but she ain't fitting in so well here...
