And, yet again - this time in 1956 in the Lava Gulf, a small bay off Corsica. And, naturally, treasure laws being what they are the discovery was kept secret by the Scuba Divers that found it. Estimated value - tens of millions of Euro. Many of the treasures are believed to be irretrievably lost - due entirely to out-of-date and grasping treasure laws.

Over 2500 Gold Coins with a combined weight of almost 20 KG found during construction in Germany, 1993.
Note the paltry payoff given to the man who recovered the bulk of the treasure - a mere 20, 000 DM. No wonder the vast majority of ancient treasures get melted down - the law actively discourages the finding of treasure.
This was the largest Roman Era gold hoard ever discovered.
Regardless of the gold value, the historical value is priceless, and this is precisely what is lost when things go onto the black market.

Which means - a lot of finds go undiscovered or unreported.

And, the find of the day at the thrift shop - an antique telescope, marked "Ross - London", battered and in rough shape, but a cool thing nonetheless.
M*** doesn't want to part with it yet, and so I didn't get a chance to purchase. Probably for the best, what do I need a telescope for anyways?
