I knew this dream was going to end badly...I'm on the Titanic, the ship lit up like a brilliant constellation, sailing through a cold, dark sea, it's warm and cozy, when we hit an iceberg...
There's the crunching of steel, deep mournful noises throughout the ship, and I'm not too much longer on it, but become a point of view moving across the waves, watching the lifeboats disembark, the ship slowly capsizing, wondering about the people trapped beneath the decks, those who've fallen into the water sink slowly through the sea, their bodies dissolving, until only their clothes come to rest on the sea bottom...
...and those inside, I assure myself, the water's cold, no one will last too long there, the hypothermia, the drowning pressure of the water, it's not such an unpleasant death...
...on the waves dance dozens of yellow and purple sprites, the souls of the recently departed, and I find myself moving south-west, someplace tropical, where the water is sure to be warmer.
(Note: I know the Titanic didn't capsize, but its' a dream...)

And, finally, day off (long week, always,) and I summon the reserves to make the trip. A couple of locations in South Eastern Alberta, the drive, long, 5 hours, gravel roads blowing dust throughout the car, but the drive as well is beautiful, and I discover abundant possibilities on the way...
Always.
A black jaguar devouring a dead deer beside the highway.
Herds of Prairie Antelope, pronghorned, they don't wait for photos, herds of deer, they don't need photos, a coyote running through a field, the smell of sage and tumbleweeds bouncing across fields and highway. It's fall, and you can feel it in your soul, the porcelain blue of the sky, the colors, cool warmth of the Sun, I've only a few weekends left, fortunately most will be prospecting closer to home, I'm starting in the margins...

Panorama of the Sweetgrass Hills, only the two eastern ones shown...

And here, all three, but you'll have to squint. Some things are better seen in person...

A prairie coulee...

Snake on the highway, used shovel to scoop it to safety...

Seas of rippling breezy grass...

GMC.

Decrepit Farm...

The images are only an after-effect, the blurred remembrance, a photo safari here, over weeks, years even, the timing of the light, the framing of the photo, the waiting for wildlife, birds, this is a whole different prospecting expedition...

Standing outside for a cigarette, the roomate has noticed a small light flickering in the bushes over by the neighbors.
He's noticed it a few times, always comments, he's curious as to what it is...
...finishes his cigarette, goes back inside.
So it is with most people, curious, but never so curious that they'd think to walk across the street and investigate.

And finally getting round to scanning in some images and finishing up some outstanding creative projects that have been preying upon my mind...
The time away, it allows me to be critical, and there's a whole lot there I don't like. This is one, that if I reduce in size enough, I do...
