I mean, this has to be a joke, doesn't it?
I'd been warned.
The Chef's son, a server, perhaps mid 30's, coming in to work, first off telling me he's still drunk, been doing Ketamine, so drunk AND high, and the rest of the night goes as you might expect. He's not concealing it well, garrulous with the tables, forgetting things, he's going on about a little tattoo he got with a couple at the bar, a small one, his dad thinks it makes him look like a prisoner or felon, it's just like a SMALL tattoo, why can't his father approve anything, and now he's going off "IT's NOT LIKE I'M A HOLOCAUST DENIER"...
In his addled state he finds this hilarious, repeats it ad nauseum, the night passes.
Fuck I hate my life at the moment.
There's a book in there some where, "The responsible, articulate and reasoned child of wealth and privilege", fiction, nobody would believe it...

This appeared on my "Yahoo News" feed today - admittedly a dubious source, but the Telegraph, from which it's reprinted, is less so.
Anyways - link via the Telegraph: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/01/11/scientists-believed-covid-leaked-wuhan-lab-feared-debate-could/
Now, searching for the full article (sans-paywall) I'm unable to find it, and a surprisingly low number of results for the search. Already the "leak" is being scrubbed from the internet.
The fact that as soon as it's reported it disappears in my mind - at least - in a large part substantiates it. The fact that bad information (think "Ivermectin" and "Drink Urine") is always readily available is a testament to Big Brother's rewriting of the past.

I was surprised by how many I'd seen - and how long ago it seems. But - it appears there still are a few excellent ones left ...
Post-Satire

This age, era, it lakes an appropriate title.
By which I mean "Holocene" or "Anthropocene" are fine, but they don't define the culture. There was the Renaissance, there's been Modernism, and Post-Modernism, there have been any number of movements that specifically try and describe the culture that we live in.
For the moment, there is nothing. And so I propose we call it the "Post-Satire". By which I mean that any Satire - no matter how outlandish, preposterous, or ridiculous - is outstripped by the reality of the time we live in and the principle players.
Think of "Space Force" - perhaps funny - a satire on the ambitions of the former President Trump - but - somehow - not so funny. Because no matter how hard it tried, if you were following the news you knew that the reality was far more absurd and preposterous. Or the latest movie "hit" - "Don't Look Up" - which (I haven't seen to be fair) - fails because it comes too close to home. This isn't a dumbed down version of the world we live in - it's a world in which we somehow portray everyone in power as having the faintest glimmer of intelligence that's somehow overruled by self-interest.
You can't make fun of this, and you shouldn't be trying. It's long overdue we started to take things seriously, because - indeed - things are about to take a very serious turn.
