IFN and tonight's pick is "Inside Job", a documentary about how the banks orchestrated and profited from the economic collapse of 2008. Now to be fair, a movie about the corruption and greed within the banking industry and Wall Street probably isn't a 14 year old's cup of tea, but he sat through it and had some good questions afterwards. And the film itself was good in a nothing-I-didn't-know already but appreciated the bar charts and infographics sort of way. It was good. Well narrated, with a good soundtrack, some nice awkward moments interviewing the key people, and a proper sense of outrage as you see them all rewarded - in the hundreds of millions of dollars - and with key government positions - for a job truly terribly done. And worth it to see how corruption is spreading itself throughout the US Universities and educational systems. Not a happy film, but a necessary one. And sadly it probably won't change a thing. But we can't say we weren't warned.

The Victorio Peak Treasure is another legend that incorporates much of the treasure hunters lore - Treasure, hidden by Aztecs or Indians deep in an inaccessible cave, is found, lost again, found once more only to be seized by mysterious government "G-Men". A couple of links to get you started:

Notice how the same sites with the treasure hunter message boards also have the cryptozoology links and the links to Atlantis and ESP? Just an observation....

A busy day. Clean bathroom, scrub sink, bathtub, toilet. At first I tried removing a couple of lightbulbs, but it was still obviously dirty, and so I gave in and cleaned. Did laundry, washed sheets, duvet. Put away mail and vacuum carpet. It doesn't sound like much but it took me hours. There's the promise of guests on the weekend and so I really should make some sort of effort to be prepared. I could buy mints for the pillows but that's probably taking things a little far. And - as far as I can tell - housekeeping is a charm to keep away guests. My own private superstition. There's still the matter of the living room, but that can wait for tomorrow...
Went for a haircut. It's a boring haircut, respectable, suitable for going back to work but otherwise not too stylish. And I stopped at the health food store and picked up some Quinoa, they've been talking about it on CBC and I'm curious to see what all the fuss is about. So goes my day. 1 day left and I'm back to work, truly mixed feelings but I checked my bank account and it is a necessity.
