An unusual film, but that's exactly what I expected of Jean-Pierre Jeunet. No, not Jean-Luc. You know who you are.
Great set design, props, characters, the story was so-so and overall the film seemed somewhat to lack in the "Heart" department. Especially after Amélie. While I'd certainly recommend it over any of the Hollywood drek that too often takes precedence in the cinemas here, it's not his best effort. Worth it for the visuals alone though (nice to see a director using real actors and actresses and not avatars chosen for their generic good looks ...).
And there's something about reconnecting with the same cast that he uses for all his films that makes it - well, enjoyable in the way that catching up with old friends is enjoyable.
I'd give it 6 1/2 Bananas.

I was fixing the blog section and, well, you've probably noticed.
I spell fix with a "U".
So, apologies if it's acting up, but possibly it will be fixed in the very near future.
Until then search for articles by using the search function, or by clicking on the appropriate category link (beneath the title of the posting).
Good luck....

Starting in Kensington at 8:30, most of the households were still setting up. So I went to the nearby Starbucks, swiped a few more cards, a coffee and a fudge something-or-another, waited a few minutes then began.
It was OK. Some X-box games for the boy, sheets for the bed (as mine have mysterious stains that won't seem to wash out), a cutting board (I need a cutting board!!) and, last but not least, a set of 2 Laguoile game servers (?) (forks, I'll call them), for 50 cents.
Horn handles, the bumblebee on the side, they're beautiful. Completely impractical, and what I really wanted was a Laguoile corkscrew, but they'll do for the moment.
And a cutting board. I need a cutting board. This cutting board, for a toonie, weighs about 30 pounds and that's this trip.
There are other things, a bunch of intellectual books over-analyzing "The Simpsons", the author in attendance (introduced by his wife), I didn't stop and peruse as I have no use for living and/or successful authors, so I left them behind. Lots of good books, but I'm behind in my reading so the books were passed over.
There was a beautifully hardwood & leather sofa, Victorian styled but made in Indonesia, tempting but I have a sofa and don't need another.
Tarot cards and a book on how to interpret. Always useful.
The weight of the finds of the day, of the cutting board and the sheets, it's dragging me down so I go and wait for the bus and unload my treasures at home. Then back to a few I saw advertised closer to home - more X-Box 360 games, X-box games, Wii games for the daughter, they're the real winners this time out, this weekend alone the boy has got a dozen new games for his X-Box systems....some cufflinks and tie-clips (passed on to the people at work), aprons (IBID), beanies for the daughter and that's it.
It's too late in the day now to have a nap, I'll never wake up and so I simply get ready for work and go. A shame, I was on a roll, I could have garage-saled alll day....

Up far too early, plotting the days route.
There's a huge parade of Garage Sales in Tuscany, but it's in Tuscany. Take the train to the end of the line, wait for a bus, then walking through endless suburbs.
Fortunately there are a few closer to home - the Treasure Chest sale on 4th Street and a small Community Sale north of Kensington.
Choices, choices. As I'll doubtless want to nap I'm choosing the ones closest to home.
And, this done, there's still time to drink my coffee and catch up on the weeks news. No one won the 50 million dollar Lottomax jackpot, now my only hope is to have recovered my investment in minor subsidiary wins (I can hope...). The title, of course, is a play on Schrödinger's cat, who was both alive and dead until you opened the box and checked, my too-brief lottery dreams are dashed as a result of my enquiring as to whether I won....
It wouldn't have lasted anyways, it would have leaked out at work, in my daily errands, the best I could have hoped for is that it was won in Calgary and the winner hadn't stepped forth to claim the prize, such news would have kept the cat alive and the ticket stubs in my pocket. More offerings are needed for the Shrine of the Beloved Virgin.
It's almost time to go, loaf at the bus stop, waiting (forever) for buses that may (or may not) show up, I could walk but as it's half a day off I have a policy of doing as little as possible, there will be plenty of walking through the community...
