Yeah, so, attempts to sell the MacBrick Air having failed (2017, "too old") I'm stuck at the library trying to fix it. Fortunately my brother has some expertise there and provided me step-by-step instructions on how to patch (OpenCore via Github) and update the OS.
At the library because of the free wifi and this is not proving to be a quick procedure.
TO make matters worse my HP Stream (HP Scream, more like) is wanting to update itself. Only there's nothing can be done, it's out of memory, it's a fucking brick as well. And so I'm forever dismissing messages like:

This upon attempting to login. Shameless attempts to sell me solutions to problems of their own manufacture.
Once I've logged in I'm directed to the Microsoft Store:

Well played. At least there's consistency.
Followed by intermittent messages and pop-ups that advise me:

and:

Now, I use this computer to go on the internet. Slowly. I mean fucking slowly, I use my phone more, really, it's notepad or nothing. There's no upgrade that will save this other brick I'm using to write.
And the Apple, the forbidden fruit, slowly, hours now it's updating itself. My patience is vanishing, here goes my day off...
I'm tempted to go full Bonobo on them both, doing an ad for both HP and APPLE, but I still have slight hopes that when the new OS is installed (and I'll need to rinse and repeat, you can only upgrade in increments) that it will serve my purpose. But that waits to be seen.
Meanwhile, whittle at time in the library...

I'm trying to reacquire the equipment I'll need to get out prospecting this year. Gold Pan, Classifiers, small pick and shovel. Merely replacing what was stolen from me last year.
One of the volunteers has some classifiers, brings them in for me - they're perfect, if a bit small, but they'll work and they're definitely from the day:

Now, for a gold pan and the rest of the tools. I have a few spots I'd like to get to my next day off, if the car will start (and it's still there, last I looked...)

And now that I've passed inspection it's time to gloat. The neighbor, upstairs, who'd come and let herself into my flat last week to announce to me that "they don't want to throw you out but they're going to have to..." and ended by stressing me out so much that I began the deep clean days early...
I'm on her chair, gloating. "Yes, I won the trophy for the cleanest apartment...."
I'm pitching my cleaning service to her, she could use a hand, maybe some of the other tenants as well?
She comes down and looks around the apartment in complete and utter disbelief.
I get it. I wouldn't have believed it either, only I have a deep abiding belief in miracles, especially the ones I perform myself. And this most definitely was one.
So, never one to gloat but here, this is the time, and damn if I weren't so antisocial I'd have other people up and show them around, only I never did the "before" tour and so it would make no sense, they'd just think "isn't this how regular people live", not realizing how far up I had to swim out of the abyss to get to the "regular people" level...
I took pictures, and if you're curious they're posted below...

Today, the deadline, finally, of the Annual Inspection. My initial estimate of 3 hours wasn't far off, I put in total about 185 hours unproductively worrying about it and 5 hours, tops, doing a deep and thorough clean, putting things "in their place" which I may never find again.
It's done, and the building manager has a sort of grudging admiration that I pulled it off. Her sister must have tipped her that my studio was a little, a trifle, untidy.
Of course it was.
But the 5 hours, big dividends, and all the stress proved for nothing, clear spaces, countertops, shelves and cupboards, totes filled with art supplies arranged beside the easel, every ledge washed, shelf wiped down, floor swept and scrubbed, closets ordered and reordered until I could finally close them, the background noise of unarranged and superfluous ornament and ideas, of unfinished art projects, collections of rocks, candlesticks, crystals, garnets, all tidied and squared away.
My life, that would bear no scrutiny, least of all mine own, has finally passed inspection, and it's a relief, I can breathe, look at a plan or two to start converting these projects, supplies and ideas into into money...
I feel I should take some pictures for your benefit, if you've known me at all you'll know that disorder and chaos are my baseline, this, cleaning the house, the "settling in", it's my own personal Everest, and I've just gotten to the top.
Now, while I'm on that roll, time perhaps to address a few other lifestyle habits so I live long enough to enjoy the fruits of my labour...

Troubleshooting the tinyMCE and the Chat GPT errors and I'm finding that a lot of other websites won't load.
Even, ironically enough, Apple's own forums won't load. Not properly anyways.
But - there it is, scroll along past blue hyperlinks and unformatted text, the answer, that the computer is old and there's no way to get it to work with the current WWW standards or formats. Most websites, as a little bit of surfing will show you, are out of reach.
This is the answer. Works perfectly, obsolete by design, my MacBook Air Yosemite. I have to try and flog this on, or use it as a credit against a working windows or android PC, enough is enough already.
Now back to the perpetually stalling and crashing HP Stream, as well old and obsolete by design, but able to at least provide a working version of the interweb...
