Chopping Wood. Finer and finer, splintering into smithereens, she's complained, I'm merely stacking it, it needs to be chopped, chopped more, further, splintered into shivering kindling...
I oblige. I disagree, wood burns better as logs, the bigger the log, the longer it burns, but this is philosophy. Her preference is for the kindled log.
I try to get ahead, chop more wood, free up a morning or day to just laze in or attend other things, but the more I chop, the more they burn.
I do what meager woofing I can. And it is meager, I'm lazy, demotivated, I have an abundance of other things on my mind which aren't getting done. I'd rather be paying rent and living alone than living with the generous flexibility of "do what you can..." Because I can always do more. I can do great things...but I am here, in the woodshed of the Kootenays, I don't belong here, I am waiting my summons to greatness, I make my notes, work - sporadically, on my projects, meet her friends, her boyriend-not-boyfriend, friend, just friend, he seems a good guy. An equally dark sense of humour. Funny, flirtatious, (uh-oh, she knows), bright (enough), we get along.
Time passes.

Customs and Border Patrol Agents willfully ignore a Federal Judges ruling allowing documented immigrants access to the US.
"Merely following orders". Of course this is longstanding alibi of police and those in positions prone to abuse, the US is edging closer to civil war, and all those Border and Patrol agents ignoring the ruling - Constitutional - should face severe punishment and even imprisonment. They know the Constitution. Following Trump's directive is BS. As is following orders. They have new orders, and are following those that most parallel their views of a Totalitarian Gestapo State. That's the Police for ya...

When I was a kid in Moose Jaw we'd go swimming at the Natatorium. We didn't call it the swimming pool or rec center, it was the Natatorium. Even though in the summer we only used the outdoor pool, and technically that wasn't a Natatorium. Anyways, there was a diving board there, 7 Meters at the high board, but it was always closed so the adventurous could jump off the 5 meter lower platform, rumour had it that someone had once done a belly flop off the top board and exploded when they hit the water and that's why it was always closed and of course we all believed it...
Which makes the following video of Swedish Divers working up their courage all the more interesting...

...watched it again tonight, more relevant than ever, if all the cable companies in the US united and played at once in a prime time slot, maybe, just maybe they'd all get the idea...
