If you could only shop at one place for your groceries it would have to be the Calgary Farmers' Market. Located just off Crowchild Trail South West, in the old Curry Barracks, the Calgary Farmers' Market hosts a large variety of vendors that specialize in Organic and locally grown vegetables, Free-Range meats (including such delicacies as Ostrich and Bison), arts and crafts and Calgary's most savoury food court. A very clean, friendly and warm community environment to go for lunch and shop for groceries. And prices are not only reasonable, but frequently beat those of Safeway and Co-op. No wonder this heads the list!

One area Calgary has come a long way in is the availability of Local, Organic & Free Range food. And while once these options were quite expensive alternatives to factory farmed foods, they've come down quite a bit over the past few years, especially when compared with the increasing prices of supermarkets such as Safeway and Co-op. Rather than evaluate all of the local grocers and merchants that sell Organic, Local and Free Range products I'll concentrate on the most important.
